The idea for Golden-Cut was born in
2007. The Golden-Cut founder (Richard Granberg)
came up with the idea when renovating his own Storebro Solö Ruff
1964 (Baltic Sea chaser). It is impossible not to love a
wooden boat. The problem is the maintenance that comes with a 50-60
year old wooden boat and sea worms eating the hull. When thinking about the problems together with boat
builders and designers the idea came up to have plastic hull under the
water line and wood above. Through the solution, the
maintenance for the exposed parts together with 20 layers of
2-componant varnish would be similar to a plastic boat. It would also be possible
to manufacture the boat with an affordable end customer pricing
similar to a standard plastic boat in the same size.
Most of the new wooden boats are
carvel built with epoxy or in
"cold molded epoxy" and have lost the natural
"wood feeling". Very few are made in the beautiful
traditional Scandinavian "Viking way" called
clinker built with flush clinker plating. In
Golden-Cut the wood in the hull is massive 18 mm of the
finest Sapelli Mahogany.
For those who still want the beautiful design and
woodwork but an all GRP (Glas-reinforced Plastic) hull the
model to am for is Golden-Cut 28 G |
